Cult Of Ereal

Overview

The Cult of Ereal is the official state religion of the Republic of
Iridine. From the Temple of the Morning, the faithful serve the people
of the Republic through healing, guidance, ritual, and protection.

For many years the Cult functioned through three independent sects.
With the growth of new leadership and renewed organization within the
Temple of the Morning, the Cult has adopted a unified structure that
places all members within a single hierarchy while allowing individuals
to specialize in distinct callings through dedicated Paths of Light.

Members of the Cult now progress through stages of recruitment,
education, and spiritual dedication before eventually choosing a Path
through which they will serve Ereal and the people of Iridine.

The Allende Family are patron to the Cult of Ereal.

High Priest

The cult of Ereal is led by a High Priest who must be elected by unanimous decision by a Council of Elders. Once elected, the High Priest receives full powers and is expected to maintain his seat until his death or until he deems it is time to retire. There are provisions for the removal of a High Priest by an extraordinary session of the cult where a three-quarters vote is needed to oust the leader.

High Priest’s Proxy

Second to the High Priest is the High Priest's Proxy, named by the former, his task is to serve as a liason to the Iridine Senate and oversee the cult's political efforts and maneuverings. Having the status of a senator (indeed the Proxy often is an ex-senator), the Proxy has the task of being Ereal's voice in the Senate.

Council of Elders

The Council of Elders is composed of the heads of each sect plus up to four other members named by the High Priest or voted in by the current Council members. As the name suggests they are often the senior-most members of the cult and also those thought to have Ereal's greatest favor. In the absence of a High Priest, the Council assume supreme authority. Along with the High Priest, this is the only organization that has the power to order a dictator during times of crisis.

Priest of the Temple of the Morning

Priests are the ruling council of the Temple of the Morning and the senior leaders of the Cult of Ereal within Iridine. Each Priest serves as the head of a Path of Light and oversees the work carried out by the Acolytes and Initiates beneath them.

Priests advise one another in matters concerning the Temple, the community, and the faithful. Only the High Priest of Ereal stands above them in authority. The High Priest communicates his will through the Revealer of the Temple of the Morning or, in their absence, any stationed Priest.

Titled Acolyte of the Temple of the Morning

Titled Acolytes are senior Acolytes who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, leadership, and mastery of their duties. After training under a Priest, they are entrusted with guiding others within their chosen Path of Light.

While all Acolytes are encouraged to study broadly within the Temple, those who excel within a particular discipline may be recognized with a Titled position and entrusted with greater responsibilities within the Cult.

Acolyte of the Temple of the Morning

Acolytes are full members of the Cult of Ereal who have completed their training and been formally accepted by the Temple.

During the Ascension Ceremony an Initiate must stand before the Oracle and the Eye of Ereal. Only if both accept the candidate will Ereal call them into Acolytehood. Upon their ascension they receive their sunstone medallion and may attune themselves fully to the service of Ereal.

Acolytes serve the Temple directly and may begin specializing within the various Paths of Light.

Initiate of the Temple of the Morning

Initiates have successfully passed the recruitment stages of the Cult and are recognized as official members of the Temple of the Morning.

Each Initiate is mentored by a senior member of the Cult while learning the duties expected of a servant of Ereal. They may represent the Cult
publicly and begin studying the rituals and blessings of the Way of Ereal as part of their formal training.

Neophyte of the Temple of the Morning

Neophytes are the first official recruits of the Cult of Ereal. Those who reach this stage are welcomed into the Temple and granted chambers
within its lower halls so that they may dedicate themselves fully to study and service.

Their time as Neophytes is devoted to learning the traditions of the Cult, assisting within the Temple, and preparing themselves for the responsibilities of Initiatehood.

Aspirant of the Temple of the Morning

Aspirants are individuals who have begun their journey toward serving Ereal. Though not yet formal members of the Cult, they are welcomed within the Temple to learn its teachings and demonstrate their commitment.

Through service, study, and dedication an Aspirant may be accepted into the Cult as a Neophyte.

Recruitment Within the Cult

The journey of service to Ereal begins with recruitment into the Temple of the Morning.

Those who feel called to serve may enter the Temple as Aspirants. With guidance and dedication they progress through the stages of Neophyte
and Initiate before ultimately standing before the Oracle and the Eye of Ereal to seek acceptance as an Acolyte.

From Aspirant to Acolyte, every stage of this path is overseen by members of the Path of Guiding Light.

PATHWAYS OF LIGHT

>> >> >> >> >> >> Pathways of Light
Revealing Light Arcane Light Preserving Light Comforting Light Guiding Light Illuminating Light Nature's Light

Upon becoming an Acolyte, members of the Cult may dedicate themselves to one or more Paths of Light. Each Path represents a different form of
service to Ereal and to the people of Iridine.

While all Acolytes may study the teachings of any Path, those who demonstrate exceptional devotion within a discipline may be recognized as Titled Acolytes and eventually Priests within that Path.

The Path of Revealing Light

Priest: Revealer of the Temple of the Morning
Titled Acolyte: Seer of the Temple of the Morning

Revealers guide the direction of the Cult of Ereal. They communicate the will of the High Priest, announce changes in leadership or structure, and ensure the integrity of the Cult both within the Temple and throughout the wider community.

Their duty is to illuminate the path forward so that the faithful may walk in the Light of Ereal.

The Path of Comforting Light

Priest: Comforter of the Temple of the Morning
Titled Acolyte: Counselor of the Temple of the Morning

The Comforting Light serves as the heart of the Temple. These members act as mediators in disputes both within and beyond the Cult and offer guidance during times of hardship.

They officiate marriages, oversee matters of divorce, and perform funeral rites. When the people of Iridine are weary or troubled, they turn to the Comforters for wisdom and compassion.

The Path of Guiding Light

-
Priest: Shepherd of the Temple of the Morning
Titled Acolyte: Guide of the Temple of the Morning

The Guiding Light is responsible for the training and mentorship of those who seek to serve Ereal.

From the moment an Aspirant enters the Temple until the day they stand before the Oracle to ascend as an Acolyte, the Shepherds and their Guides oversee their education, discipline, and spiritual growth.

The Path of Nature’s Light

Priest: Druid of the Temple of the Morning
Titled Acolyte: Leaf of the Temple of the Morning

Those who walk this Path study the natural world and the balance Ereal established within it.

They investigate unusual plant and animal life, develop cures and remedies, and safeguard the purity of nature. Druids also hold authority in determining whether substances such as fruits, tears, ooze, or other organic materials have been tainted or corrupted.

The Path of Preserving Light

Priest: Focus of the Temple of the Morning
Titled Acolyte: Clerk of the Temple of the Morning

The Preserving Light maintains the records and history of the Cult.

They oversee official documentation, ensure that records are complete and accurate, and archive important texts and decrees. All official documents of the Cult pass through their hands before being preserved within the Temple archives.

The Path of the Arcane Light

Priest: Mother or Father of the Way of the Temple of the Morning
Titled Acolyte: Cleric of the Temple of the Morning

The Arcane Light oversees the rituals and blessings of the Way of Ereal.

These members train others in ritual practice, regulate the safe use of sacred magic, and investigate reports of arcane phenomena. They may
also examine objects or locations suspected of possessing magical properties.

The Path of Illuminating Light

Priest: Illuminator of the Temple of the Morning
Titled Acolyte: Glimmer of the Temple of the Morning
Stationed: Temple of Illumination

The Illuminating Light serves as the public face of the Temple of Illumination.

They organize charitable events, coordinate aid for the poor and orphans, repair temples, and work to restore the holy city. Through their efforts the people of Iridine see the living light of Ereal within their community.

Legacy Structure

This section preserves the historical organization of the Cult of Ereal prior to the reforms enacted in 2026.

For many years the Cult was divided into three separate sects known as Revealing Light, Nurturing Light, and Bright Hope. These sects
maintained their own hierarchies and internal structures while reporting to the Council of Elders.

With the rise of renewed leadership and the restructuring of the Temple of the Morning, this system has been replaced by the unified hierarchy and Pathway system described above.

Others of Note Within the Cult

Weddings

The Cult of Ereal regards the vows of marriage to be a sacred event, undertaken under the watchful gaze of Ereal and in His Light. The Cult, however, has limited resources to officiate at weddings and does not consider it necessary to validate one's commitment to Ereal.

The vows, then, are intensely personal, and while the Cult is pleased to celebrate the vow-making between two people who are able to afford its mandatory donations, no such spiritual requirement exists. The Cult will gladly accept a couple's word that their vows have been made before Ereal, and that His Joy fills their union.

The Cult is willing to celebrate the ceremony of marriage at any point, whether it be immediately upon the taking of vows or after fifteen years of matrimony. The celebration is just that--a festive event that can recognize either the joy of new happiness or an old love still thriving.

The religious obligations are not the same as social obligations. To an upper-class family, a wedding ceremony without the Cult's blessing would be unheard of, a genuine scandal. No well-born person, whether a patrician or merchant, would dream of some common vows being exchanged in private.

Please note that as easy as this circumstance may seem to be entered in upon, it is not lightly broken. The Cult must sanction the sundering of the marital chains, and only if good cause is presented.

Festivals

Ereal's priests are well-known for a variety of week and two-week long festivals held throughout the year celebrating different aspects of the God and to the passing of seasons.

They are the Festival for Ereal of the Morning which begins at the start of spring, the Festival for Ereal the Conqueror which begins at the start of summer, the Festival for Ereal of the Evening which begins at the start of autumn and the Festival for Ereal the Wanderer which begins at the start of winter.
