Codex Kyi Life Limericks

Life Limericks
by Kyi Martyr
These are the response to some of life's great concerns as
told by the fictional festiv, Laius Halaebac. This codex is
respectfully dedicated to Laius, in place of all the festivs
who seldom receive their exalted place as those who make us
smile, laugh and think.

The young man declared, I'm Laius
a festiv by trade, I confess
I dance and I sing
and jokes will I bring
but enough about me, I digress
Well what's the first thing I should do
perhaps a good joke maybe two
I have a great voice
but make your own choice
my time has been purchased by you
Advice did you say, that's a change
and I think that it borders on strange
but I'm up for the task
I'll do as you ask
with humor, will my words arrange

The happiest person I've known
has nothing to call all his own
he sits in the bar
where all his friends are
He's truly a king on his throne
Some find joy in jewelry and rings
amassing the items of kings
just stuff with great cost
but what if they're lost
a fool is relieved of his things
For me happiness is romance
good food and a few games of chance
a few savory tales
with laughter and ales
and nights filled with music and dance

Love

When asking about his thoughts of love
There's nothing as great I can think of
a lass to keep near
plump breasts and round rear
to snuggle and wear like a glove
So find her, with kisses you smother
she takes you to visit her mother
a dress all in white
and touching all night
Congrats, significant other
The physical closeness, it ends
and the heart is slow in its mends
he settles his urges
his coin pouch he purges
to Septima's to make some new friends

Politics

The first rule is have a good plan
the second is do what you can
if things go amiss
never forget this
make sure you blame the other man
A decision to be a bad guy
requires a good alibi
defending your gain
you clearly explain
and hope you're not caught in the lie
The people believe what they're told
but if one objects standing bold
just take him aside
and against his pride
can usually be bought with gold

Friends

A hundred friends, who would have guessed
the rich man believed he was blessed
but he lost his money
he thought it not funny
for not even one passed this test
Of friends you may prefer a ton
though surely you the have more than one
the skies are not gray
and hear what I say
just two can go out and have fun
We pick ourselves up off the floor
and each has been tossed out the door
yet bartenders serve
more than we deserve
I'm sure that they charge us much more

Work

The builder shows that he is strong
and merchant, he trades all day long
but that's not for me
I know I can be
content with a rhyme and a song
Of some people I am annoyed
content to be quite unemployed
they steal and they cheat
for spoils are too sweet
and so much hard work is destroyed
One friend of mine...well she's a whore
but she says life's never a bore
though messy and such
enjoys it so much
declares work is never a chore

Family

My father gave me this advice
a morsel, so short and concise
his belt he held near
and his anger clear
before I speak I should think twice
My mother was the nicest mom
her advice to me was so calm
just take your time son
till you find the one
for now your life is in your palm
The value of family depends
where one comes from, all odds and ends
but rather than luck
and bloodline be stuck
unlike family you choose your friends

Farewell

Oh, see by the place of the sun
I think that our day's almost done
please visit again
and you can pick when
freely I admit this was fun
My friends should be just down the way
no longer I want to delay
you're welcome to join
be sure to bring coin
the plan is to party till day
