Codex Kyi Impromptu

Dedication

A group of friends would gather over a cup of tea
and compose on the spot. A chance word would
prompt poetry, and with that, fellowship. This
book is dedicated to one who was taken from us
suddenly, but will always be in our hearts.

Tovania, you will not be forgotten.

The Journey

Oh not again, the waves increase
Will this sickness ever cease
Three weeks upon the raging sea
A better life awaiting me

Running from a tainted past
I'll make it better than the last
Smile once again when I make town
and breathe again...lest I drown

I'll learn a trade, earn my way
lots of work, a little play
I don't expect a thing for free
Just hope, new life in the Eternal City

They Danced Some More
(a song)

Intro
Here is the story of a tattered old inn
where all had a story, at the bar within
the ale would pour and the music would play
till all their cares would drift away

verse
One young man lost his whole life
for he, his gambling meant more than his wife
till all was lost...yes all was lost

verse
Another told of his sorry story
being tossed from the ranks of pride and glory
and his face went pale...yes his face went pale

chorus
So they danced and they danced
and they danced some more
not a foot was still along the old wooden floor
till the ale set in and they felt no more

verse
The bartender listened to all the tales
and continued passing out mead and ales
till all had some...yes all had some

verse
Where many gather with a common reason
All have problems and it comes in seasons
but they had each other...yes they had each other

Frozen in my mind are visions of younger days
but a picture of a younger me appears in the haze
"why do you dwell," he calmly askes, "on the things before?"
My reply, "I don't want to make those same mistakes anymore."

Do you see what I see
or am I too close to the mirror
maybe if I stand a bit farther back
no, the farther I stand
the less I see

tell me, instead
what you see
for the reflection may be fuzzy, hazy
or let me see you
for you are close
and I am near
and may you be my true reflection

Lousy, Horrible, Filthy Boots
(a song)

There once was a man with an ale in his hand
walking home one night from the bar.
He was tossed already, and quite unsteady.
He fell, not getting very far.
Through the air went his mug which soaked a young thug
who glared as he got real loud.
The young thug was swearing at the ale he was wearing,
and a constable broke through the crowd.

I'm sorry mister constable, I'm not the one responsible,
it's these lousy, horrible, filthy boots of mine!

A woman looking pretty and was laughing kinda giddy,
caught the eye of this boot wearing man.
She bade him come near, and then grabbed his rear,
and he thought, I'll take what I can.
She wanted more, his pants hit the floor,
and he reached up under her gown....
when her husband walks in, and he ran out,
quick, bare-assed through the town.

(continued...)
So he set out one day with a weeks worth of pay
and bought himself a meal.
A dog grabbed his lunch and proceded to munch,
how rude for the dog to steal!
Well his leg he kicked out, but his boot flew about...
hit a wealthy man, upset all around.
Later you find to set peace to his mind, a man,
by his boots, hung upside down!

A mirror before me
a reflection confuses me
for it stares back
asking what's to come
my strength is failing
my resolve is shaken
I long for peace
where does it come from

From deep within
or from those around me
I'll take what from where I can
for I choose who I will be
and forever be remembered
as that man

Oh pastries, shall be
the end of me
they fill and comfort
I eat them with haste
If only I could stop
at two, or three
I wouldn't have such
an enormous waist

I collect things
it's what I do
big things
small things
things that are not mine
oh look, the constable
has come to collect me

Solitary leaf, floating in the wind...
alone, but playing happily...
The wind, it grows,
the dancing continues...
and more come out to play.
A crowd of leaves, dance together,
spinning around, without a care...
until the wind...gives in...
and all collapse, exhausted.
